Walter Mathis Jr. is a 6'2", 290-pound defensive tackle from Savannah, Georgia, who prepped at Calvary Day School. A four-star recruit in the 2025 class, he was ranked No. 44 nationally at his position by recruiting services composite and earned All-Greater Savannah first-team honors twice. As a sophomore in 2022, Mathis recorded 50 tackles including 22 for loss and 6 sacks, helping Calvary Day to an 11-1 record. In 2023, he posted 44 tackles with 18.5 for losses and 6 sacks while the team went 13-1. Over his varsity career, he totaled 189 tackles, 57.5 for loss, and 17.5 sacks in 47 games. Mathis spent one season at LSU, appearing in 12 games with 9 tackles and one pass break up before transferring to Auburn.
