Michael Matthews-Canty is a 6'3", 235-pound linebacker from Fredericksburg, Virginia, who transferred to Auburn after two seasons at Hampton University. At Hampton, he appeared in 21 games with 18 starts, accumulating 112 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, and 4.0 sacks along with one pass breakup, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. During his 2024 freshman year, he recorded 34 tackles, 1.5 TFL, and 1.5 sacks across six starts in nine appearances. As a sophomore in 2025, he started all 12 games and posted 78 tackles, 4.5 TFL, and 2.5 sacks. Matthews-Canty was a three-star recruit out of St. Michael the Archangel High School.
