Sam Goellner is a defensive end for the Purdue Boilermakers standing 6'3" and weighing 250 pounds. The St. Louis, Missouri native from Ladue Horton Watkins High School earned varsity football newcomer of the year honors in 2023 and recorded four touchdowns as a junior. He also competed in basketball, earning first-team all-conference and all-district selections as a senior while winning defensive player of the year accolades in both his junior and senior seasons. Goellner was named to the Missouri Academic All-State Football Team as a senior. Now a redshirt freshman, he did not appear in games during the 2025 season but earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition. He is majoring in Economics with a minor in Political Science.
