Johnson was a four-star recruit rated as the No. 21 defensive line prospect nationally by recruiting services and a top-10 prospect in Missouri according to recruiting services. As a junior, he recorded 60 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a safety. He earned Missouri Football Coaches Association first-team All-State honors as a junior and first-team All-Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference recognition as a senior.
